Forest school adventures- 23.3.21- Foundation
When you go down to the forest today… you are in for a big adventure! Foundation absolutely loved going to Forest school today. They put on their wellies and went stomping into the woods. The children made stone soup in the mud kitchen and loved finding different outdoor items.
The children threaded daisies into Easter egg templates. They enjoyed developing their fine motor skills.
Today Foundation went orienteering. It was very exciting!We worked in teams to collect superhero numbers. We made sure we collaborated as a team, and persevered when it got challenging. We hid the cones for our friends to find. We used some really tricky hiding spots and loved challenging our friends. One of the cones was hidden so well, it even got lost.
To commemorate the lockdown time, we created a Foundation time capsule. We drew and wrote our memories. We focused on what we are excited about and what we enjoyed during the time.
The children were very excited that their thoughts and feelings will be a part of history.
In Foundation, we have had a very exciting world book day. The children have loved dressing up as their favourite characters. We had a fashion show to show off our costumes!
The children loved meeting ‘Rex’ the dinosaur from Tyrannosaurus drip. They asked him questions and thought he was very funny, and not the least bit ‘scary’. We loved sharing our favourite stories with each other. What a superb day- well done Foundation!
Another great week in Foundation! We started a new topic, dangerous dinosaurs. The children have loved learning about prehistoric creatures and creating dinosaur movements to music outside. We have created our own dinosaurs and dinosaur names!
The children have been discussing empathy this week in wellbeing Wednesday. We have focused on self empathy. The children practised breathing exercises to feel calm and relaxed. They also celebrated all the ways they excel.
In maths this week, we have focused on ‘cheeky number 9’. We have loved learning about number 9 and looking at square numbers. The children enjoyed exploring the composition of 9 with numicon.
In literacy the children have shown incredible determination to make progress. We have been thinking about winter. We have thought about all the things we might smell,feel,touch and taste in winter. We made our own snowflakes and wrote some fantastic adjectives to describe them.
What a fun packed week we have had in Foundation! The children have been looking at why snow melts, and how we get snowy weather. We made sure to watch out for any snow outside too. We looked at different things we might do in the snow and made some freeze frames.
We all really enjoyed learning Pilates. The children loved taking on the different challenges and learning all about their abdominal muscles.
In maths this week, we have been looking at 2D and 3D shapes. The children have been sorting shapes based on the number of sides they have. We discovered that we are all magic and can turn 2D shapes into 3D shapes- wow Foundation!
Well done on such a super star week Foundation. You never cease to amaze me!
Wow, another fabulous week in Foundation. In our cornerstones learning we have discussed how we see the moon. We decided on what materials would make the texture of the moon. We tried making the mixture several times. We evaluated our mixture and improved upon it.We loved getting our hands dirty to create the texture of the moons surface.
We have really enjoyed reading our up-levelled ‘Dear zoo’ story map. The children loved using the vocabulary ‘quickly, immense and stretchy’. The children are extremely proud of their performances.
The children have worked incredibly hard to produce their own narrative writing. They have written the ‘Dear zoo’ story using their own ideas.
In Foundation, we have really enjoyed learning about our cornerstones topics.
We have been learning all about the night time. We have looked at different bedtime routines and heard all the sounds that might indicate it is bedtime.
We have discussed different night time animals and looked at why it is dark at night time. The children were amazing at using the language of ” agreed, disagreed or my thinking is different” to discuss, with their friends, why it became dark at night time. Well done Foundation!
The children loved playing number bingo this week. They described number in lots of different ways …” it has 2 digits…it is one more than… it is a 10 and a 9″.
The children did some fabulous incidental writing! Gerald the giraffe came back for another visit! We all enjoyed hearing how Gerald felt. He used the vocabulary frustrated, worried, terrified and excited- wow Gerald! The children decided to talk, and write, about how he was feeling being away from home. They used the interactive whiteboard to write their sentences.

This week in Foundation, we have had a superb week. The children have been working incredibly hard writing questions to Gerald the giraffe. We copied Gerald’s movements in PE and made up movements for other animals. The children also made some zoo’s for Gerald to move into. They up levelled their zoo’s by describing them as “immense,spiky, sharp, colossal and terrifying “.
The children really enjoyed using a part-part-whole to partition 7 and to discover all the number bonds to 7.
All the Foundation children have been working their ‘socks off’- well done Foundation! Keep up that amazing resilience!
This week in the Foundation bubble, we have been focusing on climbing out the ‘learning pit’. The children have been challenging themselves and then working collaboratively to improve. Well done Foundation bubble.
We have looked at one less than, our number of the week, 7. The children really enjoyed using cubes to secure their understanding.
Well done to all of Foundation. Miss Redwood and Miss Banning are incredibly proud of all your hard work and achievements, both at home and in school.

This week we put on our wellies and went on a fantastic nature walk. We discussed nocturnal animals and looked at these animals in more detail. We really enjoyed learning about one more and one less in our maths lessons. The children loved collaborating to represent one more/one less in a tens frame.
The children enjoyed seeing Miss Banning on the ‘big screen’ and playing a game with her. They told her about their week in school with Miss Redwood and what they did for Christmas.

In Foundation, we have been creating circuits. The children have used different components to create circuits. They really enjoyed making the bulb light up and developing their understanding. The children loved answering questions about why things were/weren’t part of a working circuit.
In Foundation, we have been using different resources to make number 5. We created number sentences using cubes, numicon and counting bugs. We represented 5 in lots of different ways!
This week in Foundation, we have been reflecting on our progress so far this school year. The children have loved looking at their special books. The children have looked back at their learning and decided how they could improve. We are encouraging the children to think about their targets.
