Year 2 Home Learning – Friday 10th January
(All learning to be handed in Wednesday 29th January.)
Reading
In Year 2, we expect you to be reading for at least 10minutes, five times a week. This needs to be recorded in your individual reading record.
Home Learning Menu

Over the next 2 weeks you must complete an activity/series of activities that total at least 15 points. How you choose to do so is up to you! For example, you may just complete the fifteen-point activity or may choose to do one ten and a five-point activity; you could also choose to do three five-point activities – it is completely your choice! Have a look at the activity menu below:

Make a leaflet/mini scrapbook about your favourite sport. Include photos, pictures, tickets, programmes and written information about the sport. Try and include some history of the sport and explain why it is your favourite.

Spend 15 minutes per week on numbots. Can you get 3 stars for each level? How far will you progress though the story?
  Plan a weekly exercise routine for your family: Perhaps a weekend walk, a bicycle ride, a trip to the swimming pool or an an obstacle course in your garden. Write down the instructions and targets you hope to achieve. Spend 15 minutes per week on spellodrome. Will you earn any certificates? How many points will you score?
  Ask your parent/carer to download Scratch (or Scratch Junior) and use this software to make an animal bounce along your choice of setting. Design a new sports-kit for your favourite team in any sport.

Reading
Please encourage your child to read on a daily basis at home and should be discussing this reading with an adult. In reading record books, please could children/parents write a comment about this reading.

Collect some shells from the beach.  Can you find different ways of sorting them? Can you use a Venn diagram? Feel free to bring some pictures to show us how you sorted them.

Write an explanation to show us how you sorted them.

Write a poem about the living things that make their home in a rock pool. An acrostic or shape poem would be fun! Design, draw and paint a picture of a beach hut

 

  Bring pictures from home of yourself or family members at the seaside. Are there any of someone swimming in the sea? Identify the different locations on a UK or world map.

 

Visit the beach and explore the rock pools?  What creatures do you find living there?  Can you find any creatures living on the sand? Bring in some photos for your SOLE book if you can.
  Visit the library to browse or borrow story and information books about the seaside. Write a short book review about your favourite.

Write about what you notice. Take photos and write up your findings ready to present in it your SOLE book.

*Research a sea creature of your choice. The more you know about your animal the easier you will find it to write about in school.  You should think about how to present your findings. You might make a power point presentation or create your own booklet. 
You could start with these questions.
Where does it live?
What does it eat?
What is it?
What special features does it have? For example, can it camouflage?

*Design and create your own sea creature – labelling its special features

*Complete a litter pick on the beach to help protect the oceans. Go with an adult and be careful of the sea and items you might find. Please bring in a picture for your SOLE book.
 
*Make some different length sea creatures and measure them with a ruler. Which is the longest which is shortest? What’s the difference in length between the shortest and longest? Think about how you can present this for your SOLE book.
