Maple Class Mega Maths Mission…would we choose to accept it???
Using only flat sheets of A4 paper, some masking tape, scissors and our knowledge of 2d and 3d shapes, we were set the challenge to attempt to build a firework rocket!
At first, our discussions focused upon the type of shapes you might see in a firework rocket. We identified 2d and 3d shapes which might be suitable for our mission. Can you remember which shapes we decided? Tell someone at home about the shapes you chose and why you picked them.
What happened next was the most amazing mega maths session…
Which part of the rocket is being created here? Which 3d shape will it become? How can you prove it?
Which part of the rocket is being made here? Tell someone at home how you made this part…it certainly was an interesting challenge!
Which 3d shape is being made here? How can you be sure?
Rocket designs and finished products are finally complete!
Time to set off to find the best blast off station. Let’s go!!
Getting our rockets ready for blast off! Explain to someone at home how you powered your rocket during blast off.
Final checks and we are ready to fly…
Some of us also found different blast off stations. Explain where you blasted your rocket from and why you chose that spot.
How did it get up there???
In the words of Evan, “Mrs Hooper, this has been literally the best Friday…EVER!”
Yes Evan, it was…so far!
