Amazing Arrays, Year Two, 11.11.16
We have been working in multiplication. We have been creating numbers sentences and arrays. We could then could the groups in 2s, 3s, or 10s.
Today we were posed the statement – All arrays are even – true or false? We were amazed at how resilient the children were at exploring, explaining and reasoning. With a great deal of discussion, agreements and some disagreements, we concluded that the statement is false.
The children proved that an array can be any number if it’s made up of one row or one column. They also proved that you can make an array with 9 cubes by arranging it in 3 rows and 3 columns.
We have been on an array hunt again…
Following the the success of hunting for arrays at home, we decided to develop our understanding by searching for more at school. We looked high, low and all around…
We discovered that arrays are groups of objects that have to be arranged in neat columns and rows.
Rows go across and columns go down.
We can count the rows or columns using patterns or times tables.
Keep on spotting!?
