Year 5 and 6 Balanced Arguments – Should animals be kept in zoos?
Three weeks of hard work have culminated in Years 5 and 6 writing some fantastic balanced arguments today. Drawing on our visit to Paignton Zoo, research into the views and opinions of different people and organisations, heated debates, and much more besides, the children have written some amazing pieces discussing whether animals should be kept in zoos.
In preparation for the Big Write tomorrow the children had a go at writing their first draft of their introductions and conclusions. The children tried really hard to include all the skills they have learnt over the past 2 weeks, like logical connectives.

Today, we have been planning out our balanced arguments for our Big Write on Friday. We thought carefully about the arguments for and against zoos in a modern world and how our learning so far can help us in our writing.
The children were asked to produce pieces of writing that include logical connectives. The children had to include reasons for and against zoos and had to include the high level vocabulary for this topic.
