Santa’s Little Helpers – Foundation – 03.12.21
The children in Ash and Beech have had a fantastic week as the Christmas festivities have started! The children have had an exciting visit from the Christmas elves, have decorated our Foundation Christmas tree and have even built their very own Santa’s workshop!
The children used lots of different Christmas decorations to create the workshop. The workshop came complete with a wrapping station where the children have been strengthening the muscles in their hands and developing their fine motor skills! They can now wrap presents beautifully… just in time for Christmas!
Today in French, Cherry explored how France celebrated Christmas. We found it interesting that a yule log in France is a special log that is put on the fire so if Mary and baby Jesus needed a place to stay there would be somewhere warm for them. We also found out that in some areas of France it is a tradition to have 13 desserts as part of their Christmas meal.
After learning about France and their traditions, we began using our knowledge of French to create Christmas pictures. We use our French numbers, colours and shapes to help us. If we were unsure what a French word meant, we used our learning value resourcefulness to figure it out by using books and bilingual dictionaries.

Scene 4 YEAR 4 “Animal Farm.”
Now we’ve heard of the people who came to the town –
Of Mary and Joseph, whose details went down
On the Emperor’s list, so his tax they could pay,
And the shepherds who heard all the angels did say;
We’ve heard of those wise men who saw a bright star
And arrived there much later, they’d come from so far.
But they weren’t the only ones who knew of that night –
At least, if our carols and cards got it right.
It seems that an ox and a donkey came too,
Though the Bible quite simply doesn’t mention those two.
But I think they were there, around Jesus’s bed,
For the manger was where they would go to get fed.
So even the animals gave to the Lord
Something to honour him, what they could afford.
For while he was lying in their feeding box,
They had to go hungry, the donkey and the ox.
What will we give him, who accepted the loss
Of his life freely given when he died on the cross?
Will we let him be King of lives, every day?
‘Cause that’s why he came here to lie in the hay!
Here are the words to the section of poem that Year 4 will be presenting at the Christmas Carol Concert at the end of term. If you would like to present a section, practise at home and be prepared to audition next Monday!
“It happened one night.”
Scene 2 YEAR 4 “Close encounters of the angelic kind.”
While Jesus lay sleeping in the manger that night,
Some shepherds out working had a big fright.
Their job was to guard a large flock of sheep,
To keep then all safe, and not go to sleep.
But as they sat shivering in the middle of the night,
The sky above filled with a blazing, clear light.
An angel of God in robes of bright gold
Swooped down to the shepherds, who forgot to feel cold.
For now they were shivering because they were scared;
To speak to the angel not one of them dared.
“Don’t worry,” the angel said, “You’re in no danger;
I’ve come down to tell of a child in manger.”
“This baby’s a special one – God’s only Son.
Go see him in Bethlehem; don’t stand there – run!”
And just to make sure they knew it was true
An army of angels came down from heaven too,
And sang to the Lord as loud as they could,
Carols of praise for doing such good.
The shepherds ran off as fast as they could,
And found the Lord Jesus in a feed box of wood.
Joseph was shocked when they came through the door;
“How did you know? We’ve not been here before!”
So the shepherds explained what the angel had said.
Then they knelt down and worshipped the child in his bed.
Key Stage 2 spent the day down at St Michael’s Church today rehearsing for tomorrow’s carol concerts. Here’s a sneak peak at some of the delights which await the lucky audiences tomorrow!

A huge well done to all the children in year 1 and 2 for their fabulous Christmas performances this year. The children performed Children of the World, based on the different ways that children around the world celebrate Christmas.
They began by welcoming their audience with a sneaky preview of some of the hits from the performance.
Year 2 angels.
Children from China.
Children from Australia having a barbie!
Children from the USA.
Mary and Joseph look after baby Jesus.
Well done everybody and thank you to all who supported the show, by helping to create the children’s costumes and coming to watch their performance.
Tis the season to be jolly! Tis also the season to eat Christmas dinner!
Wearing their party crowns and pulling their crackers, Maple Class enjoyed their Christmas dinner today and sharing the festivities with all their friends.
What a lovely way to spend our lunch! Yummy food, funny cracker jokes and super Christmas songs to sing along to…brilliant fun! Christmas is certainly coming!
Let there be light! Lantern lights, lighting the way in Maple Class today!
Maple Class will certainly be lighting the way this Saturday, when we join the Teignmouth Christmas lights switch on procession with our terrific lanterns!
What tremendous effort everyone has given to create such lovely lanterns! From our initial lantern idea designs and drawings, to making prototypes out of straws, then constructing willow frames and detailed structures and now finally covering these carefully with tissue paper…amazing creations everybody!
Which 3D shape is your lantern? Which 2D shapes can you see on the faces?
Which part of the lantern making process did you enjoy the most and why?
Which part of the process did you find more challenging and how did you overcome the challenges?
A massive, massive thank you to all our amazingly kind family members who came in and helped us all this week. We really couldn’t have done it without your help!
Watching a video tutorial to learn the technique and skills involved for covering our lanterns.
Watching Mr Quint demonstrate with the materials and resources we will be using ourselves.
Watching the ‘experts’ and sharing other helpful techniques.
Securing our frames and structures before the big tissue paper cover up began…
Cutting just the right amount of tissue takes time!
What lantern shape do you think this tissue paper might be for and how do you know?
Thank goodness for our friends… Collaboration!
This is going to be messy…and lots of fun!
Tremendous focus and resilience.
Did you find it easier covering your lantern shapes with small or large pieces of tissue? Explain your reasons…
Gently stretching and pulling the tissue over the willow frame to create a smoother finish!
Almost there! Team work will do it!
Finally drying off in the sunshine…
Simply stunning!
Northumberland Place, Teignmouth: Meeting at 4.15pm, procession at 4.30pm.
SEE YOU THERE!
Today we made the frames for our Christmas lanterns. The children (and adults) had great fun collaborating, sawing, measuring and snipping.
Have a look at some of the great shapes we made ready to be covered on Thursday.
Thank you to everyone who came to help.
Keep an ear out for our wonderful singing as we begin to learn the songs for our Christmas performance of ‘Children of the World’.
