Greece: Now and Then Year 3 and 4 – 30.1.2018
Over the last couple of weeks, year 3 and 4 have been focusing on their new learning journey: Greece Now and Then. We started by watching a video in the hall which was all about Ancient Greece, also taking part in a quiz at the end with some true or false questions. Following this, we then worked in groups to make a mind map for all the things we already knew about Greece, focusing on four sections: Modern Greece, Ancient Greece, Climate and Geography.
Since our hook, we have used atlas’ to find out where Greece is in relation to other countries, made a fact file about Greece and compared the Ancient and Modern Day Olympics.
At the end of this week, we will be writing our final versions of our Greek travel brochures.
Year 3 and 4 spent an afternoon working in groups to build the Parthenon as part of their Greek topic. There were many different examples as children had a choice of materials to use. Some were Lego, others cardboard and some even used wood!
Year 3 and 4 became Greek Restaurant owners for the day! This included: having to come up with an authentic Greek name, creating a menu and writing a persuasive advert. The children also cooked delicious food as part of their home learning which accompanied the freshly made Greek salads which they prepared in class. The restaurants were judged by professional restaurant owners and chefs from Plymouth. They were blown away by the children’s effort. What a great day! A huge thank you to all the parents who gave their support to the event!
