Fabulous Foundation – 15.01.21 – Foundation
Foundation have continued to blow me away this week with their amazing learning. They have been working so hard on developing their understanding of number 7 in maths. We have looked at different representations and how we can see number within number. The children have also been recapping digraphs in their phonics learning and have been continuing with our topic of Dear Zoo in Literacy. They have created some fantastic story maps to support them in retelling the story and worked hard to learn the Makaton actions to accompany it.
During our zoom lessons this week, we played ‘The Masked Singer’ and fed some of our phonics words to a dinosaur!
Well done for an excellent first full week of home learning Foundation! You are making all of your teachers so proud with your resilience and attitudes towards learning! A huge thank you to all of the parents and carers of Beech and Ash for your support! 🙂
Have a look at some of our phenomenal learning:
Year 3 have been set new home learning that can be accessed through the Google Drive. The homework is based on our new topic (Metals) that we will start next week!
Mrs Jeffery and Miss Halloway look forward to seeing all the home learning!
As the home learning as been arriving in class this week, the children have had the opportunity to share it with their classmates. We learned from what each other had being learning about and celebrated each others successes. We also managed to enjoy a few games of top trumps too.
Thank you for all your hard work. It has been lovely to see all the learning you have been getting up to at home.
We have been blown away by the incredible effort our Year Two children have been putting into their learning at home. They are working hard with their maths using the Google Forms, using scientific vocabulary in literacy and carrying out lots of science as part of their SOLE work. Please do keep sending in your wonderful photos.
From learning about turns, directions and positional language in Mathematics to Victorian dunces hats in SOLE; our home learners are certainly keeping busy! Great to see some extra fun photos too of activities they are enjoying whilst at home. Thanks Year 1!
Lots of children have been working hard at home on our new topic ‘Wiggle and Crawl’. I have really enjoyed seeing the photos of your learning and hearing about the adventures you have been on in search of mini beasts. I’m very proud of the hard work an effort you are putting in. Keep it up.
The children in Maple Class have been showing great resourcefulness this week. Have a look at some more of their Andy Goldsworthy inspired artwork. We love the shadows in the background of Hugo and Jude’s cone structures.
Elliot used crayons and plates to great effect to work out some division problems in Maths this week. What a good idea!
Hello Palm Class,
I am really enjoying looking at all the photos you have been sending in. Please do share anything you are doing at home with me so I can share some of these wonderful stores with others too.
Some people have been learning about growing and have been busy in the garden.
Others have made their treasure chests, hidden them and made a map to its location.
In literacy, lots of you have been working hard to learn new vocabulary and to arrange it in alphabetical order.
You have also learned about writing in the past tense and been applying this to writing about Captain Cook.
Lots of children have told me they have been learning about the time. Parents have set them time limits for activities, made daily timetables and used timings whilst cooking.
Lots of you have also continued to enjoy learning about pirates. There have been some wonderful drawings in school and lots of role play at home.
Keep safe and having fun whilst learning lots at home.
We have set our children the challenge of making mini woodlands in a tray using twigs, sand, flowers and anything they find from their gardens or from woodland walks. Look at some of the wonderful pictures we have already been sent.
Noah has been doing leaf rubbings of oak leaves.
Lucas has been taking inspiration from the artist, Andy Goldsworthy, and has used pebbles and seaweed from the beach and fir cones to create his artwork.
Don’t forget to send us your photos. We love seeing what you have all been up to.
Once again, we have been so impressed by the work the Maple class children are doing from home and would like to say a massive thank you to all the grown ups for supporting them.
Jack has been learning all about trees and spent ages doing an observational drawing of a cherry tree in his garden.
Oscar has been busy outside, riding his bike without stabilisers and perfecting his scootering skills. He has also been working really hard on school work too.
Lily loved making a woodland crown and decided to draw it and write instructions on what she used and how she did it.
Connie has been busily getting on with her Phonics work. She has been doing rainbow writing of some of the Year 1 tricky words. That will help her remember how to spell them.
Keep up the good work, Maple. We are all so proud of you.
Inspired by our Learning Journey, Enchanted Woodlands, some of our children have been turning their hands to a spot of gardening.
Zach has been helping with a lot of planting at home and has even made a bug hotel to encourage mini beasts to visit.
Evan has planted some sunflower seeds and they have started to grow. He is making sure he regularly waters the plant and that it gets plenty of sunlight.
Our children have been busy using their senses to explore their surroundings to help them write setting descriptions. We have been focusing on using adjectives to add interest. As always, we are so impressed with the work the children have been doing and wanted to share some. Well done Maple Class and keep up the good work!
Reading, measuring and music making are just some of the things that our lovely Year Two children have been up to at home. Others have been practising their art skills (I’ve had some lovely cards too thank you) and role playing using what they know about Captin Cook. Can you see the example below of how someone has been learning about the time? How long is your favourite film? Do you brush your teeth for the right amount of time?
Well done as well to the Palm Class children who took past in this weeks TT rock stars. We won. We are up against another Year 6 class this week so we need to all be working as a team to win again!
Last week’s results:
Come on Palm Class! We can do it!
Thank you for the wonderful stories that you have been sending in or writing in your books. I have another one to share with you here. I hope you enjoy it. I hope to start reading some of these and putting the link in the video file so please keep checking back to see if yours appears or email it in.
Our children have certainly been keeping busy and showing amazing resilience. Just look at these pictures. Elliot has learnt how to ride his bike without stabilisers, Florence spent ages completing her Lego model and Isabel has been helping build a castle in the back garden. We are very impressed.
WOW! Look at all this fantastic learning that has been happening at home. There has been lots of measuring skills whilst making cakes, measuring bodies and making bird boxes. There has also been lots of learning about pirates and ships as this has been part of our topic.
Keep sending in your photos, we really enjoy seeing everything that you have been up to.
Our Learning Journey, ‘Enchanted Woodlands’, has inspired many of our children to get creative with leaves, flowers and twigs. Here is a selection of some of the crowns children have made.
Can you spot the child wearing his woodland crown in this next photo? You’ll have to look carefully, he’s very well camouflaged!
We have also loved looking at other work the children have been doing at home on the same topic. Look at this poster all about an apple tree. There is so much information on it. Well done!
Once again, you all continue to impress us so much with the level of work you are producing at home. We wanted to share some of the Big Writes our Year One children have been doing. They were re-telling the well-known traditional tale, Jack and the Beanstalk. Look out for the adjectives, adverbs and conjunctions they are using.
Some great Maths and SOLE learning here! We love seeing how our planning is transferred into learning at home. You are all doing so well, keep up the good work and keep sending us photos. Even if it’s not based around your learning, it might be some cool lego model or picture you have made, we would love to see what you are up to!
Here are some of the activities that some of our children have been up to so far this week.
Our maths learning was based around measuring and it’s lovely to see lots of you getting hands on.
In SOLE our science activity looked at sinking ships and making predictions.
I have also enjoyed looking at the Literacy Role play videos and photos. It is lovely to see you enjoying your time with your family whilst also taking an important step with your learning.
The weather may have changed since the lovely sunshine we had last week but we wanted to share with everyone all the wonderful, sunny photos that have been sent to us by our Year 1 children. We continue to be so proud of all your efforts in doing school work and of how you are keeping busy.
We miss you all very much.
Over the course of this week Year Two are putting together their stories which are set at the seaside.
If you are stuck for ideas, see if you can magpie something from these examples. Think about what has made them successful. What exciting vocubulalry have they used?
Story Number 1:
Banana Island by EW
Banana Island is a beautiful hot place in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. It’s covered in tall coconut trees. Its sand is soft and white. Its seas are calm and blue.
On the edge of banana island live very best friends Tom Crab, Tim Lobster, Gary the Sea snail, Whaley Whale and Sharkey shark. They have exploring adventures together.
One day while they were playing, a humongous wave came and washed sharky onto the sand, sharky was very scared because he was drying out from the sun, he tried to wiggle back into the sea with his fins but he couldn’t do it.
Sharky’s friends were thinking what to do for help. Suddenly Whaley said “I know! You 3 dig a trench from sharky to the sea as quickly as you can”. The team dug and dug with their little pinchers and Gary moved the sand with his shell.
Once the trench was dug, Whaley squirted a load of water out his blow hole onto Sharky and the trench, now Sharky used his fins again and started to slide down the trench. Another woosh from Whaley and Sharky slid back into the sea.
Sharky was so happy he swam around in circles and jumped out of the water like a dolphin.
His friends were relieved that he was safe again and excited to have their next adventure together…
The End
The beginning of another story:
Poison the man of war by PG
Chapter 1
“I never thought I would see Atlantia again,” said Taylor to Daisy, his dog.
Taylor and Daisy were sailing sadly home.
They had been looking for Taylor’s lost parents.
Their boat was a tiny dot on the calm vast ocean and Atlantia was shining brightly in the sunset.
Suddenly a long green tentacle came reaching out of the water and slowly pulled the top off a skyscraper on Atlantia.
Daisy whined scaredly but Taylor turned on the motor and started rowing bravely to Atlantia.
Taylor sped ashore and ran to the castle with Daisy as a dot behind him.
“A long tentacle?” exclaimed the king. “It must be Poison!”
Taylor thought that Poison was just a fairy tale, but now he knew that Poison must be defeated.
“Yes,” said the king. “And we were hoping you could do it.”
We are all so impressed. This photo was sent to us by a child in Maple Class and all this wonderful work spread out across the table shows what he has achieved in one day. Wow! His brother has done the same too and they have let us know how much they are enjoying all their learning. This is what we love to hear.
Our Learning journey, Enchanted Woodland, has been focusing on flowers and plants. Look at these photos taken on a walk in the woods.
We thought you would like to see some of the things our wonderful Year One children have been busy doing at home recently. We have loved looking at all their online work and are so proud of how hard the children have been working.
It has been lovely to see how so many of them have been taking up new hobbies as well. Those chocolate biscuits look delicious.
Don’t forget to keep sending us your photos. You could end up on our school blog.
Have a look at some of these ideas showing what one of our Year 2 children have been up too.

Some of our home learning has been based around boats. We asked you to have a look at images of boats to find what they are made from and then test some of these material so see why they would be useful to make a boat.
We have enjoyed looking at the activities you have all been up to and the wonderful effort everyone is putting in. There have been its of creative ways of learning being demonstrated.
Here are some of the images and learning that you have sent in for your material investigations.

Home Learning Menu Over the next 3 weeks you must complete an activity/series of activities that total at least 15 points. How you choose to do so is up to you! For example, you may just complete the fifteen-point activity or may choose to do one ten and a five-point activity; you could also choose to do three five-point activities – it is completely your choice! Have a look at the activity menu below: 15 Points: *Have a go at this science activity https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dhRSSGwrLZA What do you think is happening? Write about what you notice. Take photos and write up your findings ready to present in it your SOLE book. *Research a sea creature of your choice. The more you know about your animal the easier you will find it to write about in school. You should think about how to present your findings. You might make a power point presentation or create your own booklet. You could start with these questions. Where does it live? What does it eat? What is it? What special features does it have? For example, can it camouflage? 10 Points *Design and create your own sea creature – labelling its special features *Complete a litter pick on the beach to help protect the oceans. Go with an adult and be careful of the sea and items you might find. Please bring in a picture for your SOLE book. *Make some different length sea creatures and measure them with a ruler. Which is the longest which is shortest? What’s the difference in length between the shortest and longest? Think about how you can present this for your SOLE book. 5 Points *Spend 15 minutes on hit the button – times and divide (2s, 5s, 10s and 3s). https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button *Can you draw or make a repeating pattern out of sea creatures? What’s the most interesting pattern you can make? *The rainbow fish is kind and helpful – Tell us 3 ways that you are kind and helpful. Be ready to stick this in your SOLE book. You could also have photos of you showing these kind and caring acts. *Spend 15 minutes learning these common exception word spellings on this game. http://www.ictgames.com/mobilePage/spookySpellings/index.html |
