Year 4 Mega Maths
We’ve been using our problem solving skills to solve the following problem:
By working in a systematic way, and utilising our mathematical reasoning skills, we’re well on our way to solving the problem. Some of us have been very resourceful, using physical resources to support us.
Answers to follow…
Year 6 have been carrying out a range of sports challenges including:
How far can you throw a javelin or beanbag?
How fast can you run a width of he field?
How many speed bounce jumps can you do in 30 secs?
For each activity, they had to measure precisely and find their team averages using the mean, mode, median and range.
This morning, the children experienced 5 different mathematic challenges using a range of maths skills.
This consisted of:
- Using cuisenaire rods to understand the value of number
- Investigating the relationship of area and permimeter
- Proving if mathematical statements are true using reasoning skills
- Using the number 4 four times to generate answers from 1 to 20
- Using apps on the iPads to practise calculation skills
Thank you to the parents who visited us and joined in!
Today the children worked on a maths challenge called: ‘Four Goodness sake.’
Using the number 4, four times, they had to create number sentences which equaled 0, 1, 2, 3 and so on…
E.g 4 + 4 – 4 – 4 = 0
Can you continue the challenge? How would you make 1?
In Mega Maths today the children looked at the Spirals from previous lessons. They had the opportunity to create larger versions. The children didn’t disappoint and used collaboration to create giant Caravelle, concentric circle spirals and Golden Spirals.
