Year Two, Finding lines of symmetry, 30.11.16

Take a look at what we got up to in maths today.

What was the best way you found to fine lines of symmetry? Did all shapes of a line of symmetry? Did they all only have one?

In SOLE the children have had the opportunity to extend their learning of symmetry. In maths they explored lines of symmetry in 2D shapes and in SOLE they have been creating their own symmetrical patterns.  Where else have you found symmetry?

Palm Class have been investigating line symmetry. First, we used the mirrors to explore which shapes had lines of symmetry.

After that, by drawing and cutting out our own 2-D shapes we were able to fold them to see where the lines of symmetry ran. We discovered that some 2-D shapes have more lines of symmetry than others.

How did you sort your shapes? Which 2-D shapes had the least lines of symmetry? Why do you think this is? Which shapes have more? Why could this be? How did you present your findings? What patterns did you notice?
