Year 3 and 4 – Oak and Fir – Living Museum – 6.12.16
Today saw the first of the living museums. The children were able to show off their learning and teach their new skills.
There was a buzz around the room of parents drawing dragons and longboats, as well as make jewellery.
Year 3 and 4 had a brilliant day making Viking longboats today. We used our learning values of resilience and collaboration and are very proud of the outcomes so far. Watch this space to see the finished boats!
Huge thanks to all the parents and grandparents who gave up their time to help us today – we really couldn’t have done it without you!
Viking fever has hit year 4. The children are really getting stuck int their learning and even bringing in things from home. Here is an example of a cow horn, Viking helmet and a replica axe that has been crafted by one of the children in Fir.
We have been bringing our story, ‘How to be a Viking’, to life by creating freeze frames. We thought carefully about how to use facial expressions, hand gestures and body language to show the characters’ emotions – can you tell what emotions we were trying to show?
It was our favourite literacy lesson ever!
This half term, we are using our good friend Shoo Rayner again. Have a look at these videos and have a practice for SOLE!!
Remember anything you produce at home could be journaled in SOLE book.
On Tuesday 15th November, Years 3 and 4 are going to have a boat building day. In small groups, the children are going to make models of Viking Longboats. However they are going to need some adult assistance! No experience of boat building is needed, just a willingness to help!
Please put the date in your diary if you would like to join us for this exciting day!
Ben the Bear has had a wonderful half term holiday! He has enjoyed a sunny trip to Sidmouth, including playing with his new friend, Ginny the dog.
He devoured a MASSIVE slice of carrot cake which was almost as big as him!
In preparation for our new learning journey, he’s also enjoyed reading some Viking books and is excited about coming back to school to see what else the rest of Cherry Class have found out!
The Vikings
When we return to school after the half term holiday, we will be beginning a new learning journey all about the Vikings. Over the holiday, please spend some time finding out about the Vikings so that you return to school full of fascinating facts!
Here are a couple of websites you might like to look at to get you started… If you are near Teignmouth Library, it might be worth popping in to see what books they have about the Vikings.
