Year 2 – Groovy Grouping! 27.02.17
This morning, we started looking at division by grouping. We used cubes to help us split our numbers into groups.
If we had 12 divided by 3, we would want to find out how many groups we would have if we had 3 sweets in each group – our answer would be…?
We were looking at known facts about numbers and using inverse operations. We worked hard at understanding the concepts and it was not long before the children were producing four number sentences from 3 numbers. We challenged them with a variety of numbers. We certainly saw evidence of their ‘growth mindset’ today. Maybe you could challenge your child or they may challenge you!!! Example: 70 + 4 = 74 (Only 70 +4 = …… Given)
4+ 70 = 74
74 – 4 = 70
74 – 70 = 4
