Today, in pairs, the children sorted word problems according to whether they were addition or subtraction problems. They highlighted the key words that gave them the clue as to which operation to use.
After reflecting on their new learning, they then answered several of the problems proving that they understood, not only which calculation to use, but also how to use formal column addition and subtraction for numbers up to 5 digits.
Today the children watched a play titled “All equal-All different” from a visiting group focusing on strategies to deal with bullying, including cyber- bullying. The performance was very engaging and humorous in parts. At the end the children were given an opportunity to interview the bully and to engage in discussion around this serious matter.
This entertaining performance is the hook in preparation for next week’s anti-bullying week.
Wow! What a day. It is safe to say all the children of Group 4 and 5 enjoyed themselves today taking on low adventure and Tamakele Island.
The theme for the morning was mud, mud and more mud with the children getting stuck into bogs and wading through rivers. The afternoon was based around teamwork and how to achieve success in different challenges.
Here are a few snaps of the day!
Year 4 held their last creative costume workshop on Friday and more costumes were completed with the help of lots of parents. Thank you so much to all the parents who came to either or both workshops. It has been lovely to see everyone working together and helping one another.
Reminder: we are having our Costume Preview on Monday 6th June from 2.15 in the hall. Please remind your child to bring in their costume on the first day back! Thank-you! We look forward to seeing you at the Costume Show!
Year 4 had a busy afternoon rehearsing for our iCan performance. We don’t want to give too much away but we had three rehearsal sessions running all afternoon: a drumming session, a dance session and a singing session. Wow, you have some amazingly talented children! We are having so much fun and really enjoying watching the children flourish creatively.
Singers: please learn your words to the song off by heart by next week (Verses 1 and 3 and the chorus)
Drummers: practise your rhythms by tapping at home!
Dancers: practise the different moves you do and visualise in your head each step of each dance sequence!
