On the request of my guided reading group today, I have been asked to let everyone know how much of a growth mindset they displayed.
They were so proud, quite rightly, of the huge effort they all made to decode and decipher new, and really tricky, words in the book ‘Jill and the Beanstalk’. We met words like climbed, wanted, shouted, reached, bellowed and giant. Using a mixture of phonics strategies, breaking words down into smaller chunks and using the pictures as clues, no-one said “I can’t read this” or “I don’t know what this says”. Everyone rose to the challenge and had a go.
Well done Alex, Oliver, Bailey, Owen, Aussie and Esmay. You all worked so hard.
