In Literacy today, Mrs Miller recited a poem and the children identified that there were ryhming words on the ends of each lines. Using a chopped up version of the poem, the children were given the challenge of finding the ryhming couplets and then were asked to practise reading the poem aloud to each other and then to the rest of the class. We had to use reading skills of segmenting, blending and expression and some performing skills of reading aloud in front of an audience. It was tricky for some children as a few got the giggles, some fell shy and some needed to work on louder voices. After a bit more practise and some extra handy hints, the children improved their performances dramatically. Well done Willow class.
Why don’t you try reading aloud to an audience at home.
