Year 5 – Can you read a 15 digit number? 6.9.17

Over the next week, Year 5 are learning how to use large numbers.  Here is a simple guide to being able to read them.  Firstly, write down a 15 digit number then use commas to separate the digits into 3s (start at the units column).  Then look at the first 3 digits say them as if they were just HTU and then add the word trillion, then the next 3 with the word billion, then the next 3 with million, next 3 with the word thousand and finally the last 3 digits.

Give it a go – its easier than you think!
