Is there a link between the diameter of a hole and its circumference? That is the question Year 5 have been investigating this week. They started off with a collection of small cylinders; carefully measuring diameter and circumference of each. They then divided the circumference by the diameter. After a while they noticed that it was always about 3.2. They wanted to know if that always worked, so the biggest circle they could find was in the playground. The children were very happy when their theory about 3.2 begin the connection was proved right. After 1/2 term we will be learning about Pi.
